Establishing universal standards for verifiable artificial intelligence from Zurich, Switzerland.
About Us
The Global AI Trust Alliance (GAITA) is a non-profit organization headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. It was established by Nobel laureates, distinguished scientists, industry leaders, and government officials representing Europe, North America, and Asia. GAITA's mission is to establish an international open standard for trustworthy, transparent, and accountable artificial intelligence, thereby ensuring its effective and responsible service to humanity.
Why Act Now
AI is rapidly evolving from generative AI into agentic, physical, and autonomous systems operating in transportation, finance, healthcare, security, defense, and society. This transformation presents urgent governance challenges that must be addressed collaboratively.
Unique Identity
Should every AI system carry a globally verifiable identity, and who issues and tracks it?
Data Stewardship
Who owns and governs the performance data recorded by AI systems?
Auditability
How can AI's decisions and actions be independently audited and acted upon?
Accountability
Who is responsible when systems act autonomously and failures occur?
Black Box Requirement
Do we need a mandatory black box for AI systems, as aviation requires for aircraft?
When autonomous systems fail, the causes are rarely simple: hardware faults, software errors, corrupted data, or human misuse may all play a role. Without a black box, identity is uncertain, responsibility is blurred, and trust cannot be sustained.
Leadership
GAITA is guided by experts in cryptography, AI governance, international standards, and technology policy.

Dr. Michael Levitt
ChairmanNobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry (2013), Stanford University School of Medicine
Professor Levitt is a pioneering computational biologist who shared the 2013 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for developing multiscale models for complex chemical systems. His groundbreaking work in computational chemistry and molecular modeling provides crucial expertise for GAITA's cryptographic verification standards.
